Rayne video: My Immortal

TITLE: My Immortal
MUSIC: "My Immortal" by Evanescence
SUMMARY: Girl meets boy. Girl loses boy. Girl grieves for boy. Then girl says, "My turn." River/Jayne.
CHARACTERS: River/Jayne
RATING: PG-13/R, for a WEE bit of sexy in the end
SPOILERS: THIS VIDEO CONTAINS SERENITY FOOTAGE. DO NOT watch this video if you haven't seen the BDM!
VIDEO CREDIT: The final clip of this video was taken from [info]bugchicklv's EXCELLENT Adam Baldwin video, "Sex." I hope you don't mind, babe! I didn't steal any cuts!
NOTES:
This is very much a story video. Anything in highly-contrasted blue is, obviously, River's memories/dreams. The rest of it is simply a catalog of Rayne moments, as well as flashes of River's life without Jayne. I hope you enjoy! It's a bit of a different spin for me. I honestly just made it because I heard this song in the car this morning FOUR TIMES, and I figured that must mean something. LOL! I had the image for the last few frames of this video planned out ahead of everything else, so really this whole video just leads up to the end. Fun, ain't it? LOL!

I'm not a Rayne 'shipper by any stretch of the imagination (although hahaha, I can see it) but this was a great video. My only lament is that the ratio is way, way off so it's all squishy. ;_; I'd love to see it with the proper ratios. It's gotta be tricky with the widescreen DVD episodes at 1.78:1 and the movie at 2.35:1.

Still it was extremely well put together. It's a shame to have it flawed with the ratio problem. :/

Well, you can get the movie DVD in full screen when it comes out, so maybe a way to combat the aspect ratio problem is just to buy the full screen version and crop it yourself to 1.78:1. Trying to enlarge the 2.35:1 version proportionally will likely have all sorts of quality-related problems. With the cropping, you'll inevitably lose stuff off the wide-angle shots, but most of the time that seems preferable than stretched clips or different aspect ratios.

Rendering the final vid at a 16:9 ratio instead of 4:3 gives pretty good results. I do that when I use source clips of the wide-screen variety and it solves a majority of the stretching and squeezing problems.

The problem is that the movie is quite a bit wider than the DVD episodes. The show is only 1.78:1 widescreen whereas the movie will come out in 2.35:1 letterbox. So even if you render in 16:9, the movie footage is gonna get stretched if you want both Serenity and Firefly in the same vid. Which wouldn't worry many vidders, I don't think, but I tend to be a bit of a pendantic arse when it comes to aspect ratios so I've been trying to get around stretched footage altogether. :)

oh, wow. That was some beautifulness right there. <3

And the end, where you made it all shiny and River's smiling and pretty and then the bit of sexy? So, so lovely.

Thank you! It took me FOREVER to get that ending just the right amount of glowy, so I'm glad it came out well! :D

I just wanted to say - wow. *lol* And I'm not just saying that cause I'm a Rayne shipper.

Sorry for going on about irrelevant stuff earlier in the post. My connection's slow and it took a while for this to download, but I finally got it and really enjoyed it! Lovely, clear AU storytelling, and I really liked the effects, especially the blue-toned old film grain, that was a beautiful touch.

It took me a while to DL, but it was worth it.

I do love the story in it, along with the cuts chosen to tell it. The grain/blue filter really drew the viewer in, nice contrasts. And the ending was lovely and bittersweet--and I totally loved the buildup in it, with the reavers pulling River to them and the casket with the crew looking on later.

Brava!

Wow. That was so good. I loved the effects you used and the clips. And that last scene was done so well, it gave me tingles. Lovely vid.
